Cape Town is gearing up for a planned 10-hour power outage affecting more than 60 areas in the southern parts of the city. Scheduled from 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, until 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, this interruption is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to maintain and upgrade its electricity infrastructure.

The areas impacted include Muizenberg, St James, Clovelly, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Steenberg, and Westlake. This planned maintenance is crucial for upgrading ageing infrastructure, which aims to improve network reliability and bolster the resilience of the power supply, according to the City of Cape Town.

Residents are advised to switch off electrical appliances prior to the outage to prevent potential power surges when electricity is restored. Furthermore, the city cautions residents to treat all electrical installations as live during the maintenance period, even if the power appears to be out.

While the scheduled outage is set to last 10 hours, the City of Cape Town has indicated that electricity could be restored earlier if the work progresses faster than anticipated. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to maintaining a reliable and robust electricity network for its residents.
