In a renewed wave of missile and drone attacks, Russia targeted Kyiv on Sunday, resulting in the death of at least one person and injuries to 13 others, according to Ukrainian officials. These attacks occurred a day after Ukraine launched strikes on logistics facilities and warehouses within Russian territory.
Residents of the Ukrainian capital were alerted to incoming ballistic missiles shortly before explosions echoed throughout the city. Authorities reported that the attacks impacted six districts of Kyiv. The Solomianskyi district saw damage to an apartment building, while fires ignited at a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Additionally, a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential facility were also struck.
Beyond Kyiv, the central Dnipropetrovsk region experienced a Russian drone attack that claimed another life. On the opposite side, Russian officials reported one casualty in the Kursk region following a Ukrainian strike. This flare-up comes as Ukraine has been increasing its long-range strikes on Russian soil, focusing on infrastructure and energy sites in retaliation for ongoing Russian bombardments since the conflict’s inception in 2022.
The escalation is part of a broader pattern, with recent Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and Tambov regions targeting sites linked to the supply of components for drone production and navigation systems. Amidst these military developments, Ukraine is also navigating internal political challenges. A recent government reshuffle has led to widespread protests over the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. Thousands have gathered in various cities for three consecutive days, fueling speculation about potential further changes within the country’s military leadership.
